The Sendai pictures really show the devastation, particularly the 3rd one - not a building left standing.

Its very sad to see what has happened to all those people, and matters are getting worse with one reactor melting down and now another one is going critical.
They are saying in one town over 10,000 people are unaccounted for, i reckon by end of it all the figure will be closer to 100,000 or more missing.

Read a very detailed explanation earlier about the issue with the reactors. Long piece by a nuclear scientist ... short version is that there won't be a problem in terms of a Chernobal. i.e. no nuclear explosions, no significant radioactive material leaking.
The only problem is the loss of electricity and the time and cost to get the plants repaired/replaced.
Some volcano has erupted in Japan now ffs. They must be wondering what they've done :1 (89):

You hear some of the stats about the earthquake? Trillions of tons or earth moved etc? The one that caught my attention was that the earth apparently has shifted on it's axis by 4".
4" sounds a lot to me but I've no idea if that's tiny in the scale of things, or massive? How much does it have to move before we start sliding out of the Sun's orbit? 4 miles? Or 5"?
I'm hoping it tilted us 4 " closer to the Mediterranean climate because I'm fed up with this weather.
