Hi guys just wonderin if you had any ideas about how to solve a problem of mine.

I have just bought a MSI K8T800 motherboard which comes with 7.1 onboard sound BUT windows isnt finding the soundcard. I've manually installed the drivers from the disk, checked BIOS to make sure that its enabled (the only option i have is auto/disabled), tryed to manually install the card and all to no avail. the only problem i can think of is that it is havin conflict problems with my 5.1 PCI card but when i physically remove the 5.1. card it still doesnt recognise the 7.1

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Whichever bit is broken ... plug your microphone into that. * PDT_Armat:

Please?

Why do you want a 5.1 PCI card in there when you have 7.1 onboard? *Not sure exactly what you did, but my first reaction would be to keep the PCI card out and start again from there. *I know you've had it out already but ... only idea I have.

the reason i had a 7.1 + 5.1 was i used to have my headset in the standard onboard soundcard on my old motherboard and my speakers in the 5.1 pci card thus allowing me to have ts thru my headset whilt puttin the game thru me speakers

now i've got a new motherboard (which has the 7.1 built in) it doesnt work anymore and its REALLY p***ing me off.

i tryed the unplug/uninstall/plug in/reinstall routine and it seemed to work but it suddenly couldnt find the 7.1 card i had just installed thus puttin me back at square 1. i have a nasty feeling that its the BIOS which just disables it if it detects another sound card i.e. i can only set the onboard to AUTO/OFF rather than permenantly ON

You have a conflict, start windows in safe mode and uninstall all the sound devices in your hardware list leave the old card out and reeboot see what happens.

i tried that one m8 - completely uninstalled all the software/drivers etc and unplugged the PCI soundcard. i then re-installed the 7.1 off me motherboard (it actually saw it for a change) and made sure that one was workin - THEN i reinstalled the 5.1 PCI which caused the 7.1 to disappear and lead me to think that its being disabled automatically by the BIOS (and this is the one thing that i have no power to change)

I have a motherboard with onboard 5.1 and it runs through both my speakers (well actually I have it linked to my hi-fi amp) AND my headset...it's a simple enough operation and all u need is a output cable from a standard personal cd player and a AUX socket (the one the cd goes into on your hi-fi)
Easy as pi

missing the point spam,

he wants his TS output routed through the mobo sound, and the game output routed through the pci sound card. thus having the game on the speakers and TS on the headphones...

should work fine. i've done similar on my box, i use the mobo sound for games, and a seperate high end card for music,

mobo goes to phones and a small set of speakers, sound card goes to mixing desk, then to amp/monitors and recording kit.

...

unplug and uninstall the soundcard. remove the mobosound device from devicer manager - reboot.

pc should find mobo sound and ask for drivers - install and check it works

then add the soundcard, and reboot again. add drivers and check that works...

good luck!

fear u described exactly what i did at first - after numerous attempts i finaly figured that if BIOS detected more than one sound card (inc. the onboard) then it auto turned off the onboard sound thus shovin me plans up the creek without a paddle (so to speak)

so..... i dragged out an old old sound card (2/3 yrs old at least) and plugged it in another PCI slot and it now works so me systems got a useless 7.1 onboard, a 5.1 pci for me speakers and a s**tty sound blaster pci for me headset.

Thanks again guys for all the help that you've given me - both on this and on the BHD help topic.

isnt there something in the bios that stops pc switching off onboard sound?
