cable or BT?

and do you mean router? or do you mean cable modem? or both?

some ISP's provide the modem for free, but if you want to connect multiple PC's you will need a firewall/router/hub type device.

personally, i use one of these (http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/Asus_WL_500g_wireless_router/4505-3265_16-30650222.html)

Depends on your modem!

If your modem is ethernet then go for something like:
D-Link DI-604 Router.

I use a this but it's abit more expensive:
Watchgaurd SOHO6 firewall/router. around £200

If not, you'll need a modem/router combo, such as:
D-Link DSL-504T modem/router.

It's not dial up it's just that BT use some strange software that loos like it's dialing. Can't see the point of changing your modem if you are not having any problems with it unless you want to run more than one computer off the line ?
