A TIN OF BOMBS

Ok going to replace my TI4800se card within 2 weeks...
Thinking of buying a card with the FX 5950 ultra chipset...
Now I have looked on the internet and the prices are so appart with different manufactories:
Point of View GeForce FX5950 Ultra 256MB DDR2 VIVO € 444,-
XFX GeForce FX5950 Ultra 256MB € 423,62
MSI GeForce FX5950 Ultra VTD 256MB € 416,-
Leadtek GeForce FX5950 Ultra 256MB TDH ViVo € 385,32
Asus GeForce FX5950 256MB, V9980 Ultra € 377,98
AOpen GeForce FX5950 Ultra 256MB (Tv-Out, DVI) € 352,-
Between the Aopen and the Point of View the difference is € 92,- !
Is it extra software you get with it? Is the Point of View card better? anyone has one of these cards and wanna share his view on it?
Thanks,
Bombsy

It looks like those prices you're paying are inflated compared to what is available in the UK. http://www.overclockers.co.uk have the Point of View 6800 GT for €404 (exchange rate 1:1.4).
I don't know anything about the respective s/w bundles but when I upgraded last month from a 4800se, I plumped for a fairly cheap option - HIS Radeon 9800 PRo 128Mb DDR Ice-Q TV-Out/DVI. A snip at £160 (€224). It was top of the range a year or two ago but since the 6800 and X800 cards have come out, this has plummeted in price.
Conclusion: either pay top whack for the 6800 series or go for a mid-range 5900XT or 9800 Pro. The 6800 will do better at stuff like Doom 3 and FarCry but can you afford the extra €150-200?

lol don't fight over it dudes...I made my mind...I am buying a fx5950...and no 6800 think it is too pricy! maybe in 1/2 a year the prices go down but then again i have 1/2 year fun with my 5950!
I considered the Leadtek again (now a leadtek A280)...seen some reviews...and even in overclocking the temps are good (533 Mhz & 1030 Mhz ram)...so the card will last again for 3 years...

I purchased this version of the 5950 ultra badboy lastnight,
during a drinking session with my best buddy!!...
It's only 4 monthes old!...He's the sort that has to have
the latest and greatest,So unfortunately for him Nvidia
knocked out the 6800 4 monthes after he built his PC and
he had to have it God love him!!!
So all that said i picked it up for one hundred of our english pounds!!...
http://www.i-tech.com.au/images/products/v9980u_l.jpg
Two questions mind for the techy heads!!...
1.With already having the TI4200 installed with the latest Nvidia
drivers could this simply be a matter of "Plug and play"?..or will
there be loadsa fiddlin??
2.Gigabyte 7VAXP ultra mobo,CD/RW,floppy,4 X case fans,Fan
controller,1 case neon & an Aeromaster 7 CPU cooler running
of my 400W PSU!...Will i be likely to blow up the PSU with the
extra drain??...anyone?...anyone?...
The reason i ask that is when i installed the TI4200 running all this
stuff off a 300W PSU everything died and there was a strange
burning smell!!...
Any educated guesses out there??...
Thanks Memnoch.

OK...
got to Deive manager..
Uninstall ur Graphics card that shows in the Display Adapter branch...
Shut down Ur Pc
Swap cards over...
Boot PC install new drivers graphics card...
>>>>>
I wouldnt worry about the power.. 400 W should be ample if its a decent quality PSU
