Creating maps

Is it currently possible to create/host your own maps in BF2? If not, has there been any feedback on when/if this will be a future feature?

Just asking because I love the ATO maps on BHD and the ill-fated JO.

It is possible, but the tools used are buggy as hell and it takes an absolute age.

You can host your own maps, but first the other players will need to download your map as well, as the game does not (as yet) automagically fetch the maps from the server.

Being as some maps can be over 80Mb in size, this may put people off.

I would doubt very much that Battlefield will ever be able to create it's own maps that are not required to download the map/mod, they have always been that way so i don't see why they'll change now :( Hope Im wrong but thats the biggest let down for me in the game :1 (53):
