For those who are experiencing an unexplained drop in performance ie decreased fps, ping spikes try the following:

Open mydocuments-->battlefield2-->mods-->bf2-->cache

In the cache folder you will see folders which contain shader files. Proceed to delete all the files in the folders. DO NOT delete the folders themselves. ONLY delete the files in the folders. There should be hundreds of them.

The next time you load the game you will optimize shaders again. You should see an improvement in performance. In my circumstance, I saw a fps increase of about 10 and my ping spikes disappeared. Apparently, every time the shaders are optimized they are overwriting the old optimizations.

Give a try, it is a safe tweak.

Well just did that, gonna give it a bash now, will tell you if ive noticed a difference........ do i have to do this every time before i play bf2? every now and then or just the once?
