I can die a happy man now. :) If the world ends tomorrow or I get hit by a bus, I won't care cuz I'm stoked.

Got my basic knife combat badge. Found a clan server running karkand size 32, doing a recruitment drive. 8 kills later (too many deaths to count and one rifle kill) I got it :)

First 2 were lying down. Second 2 were just south of Hotel, getting mixed up who was who. Fith spawned and I was 6 feet behind him. Sixth took a while to find but they started raiding our spawn and seventh was attacking our APC - he never saw me coming.

Checked BFHQ and the badge is there :)

And now I've told someone so just in case I do die tomorrow, someone will know I got the badge and would have got First Sarge rank and the Combat Infantry Medal eventually...

Anyway, for those of you without it, if I can get it, anyone can.

Agreed. For team games, clan games, games which mean something, that's totally correct. In these games you should fight for your team and it's just coincidence that you may gain a badge or get promoted.

For other games, there's a chance to go for the ranks, the badges/medals/whatever, or practice something you're not so good at.

Maybe I am a stat whore or maybe I've just achieved something lots of people find difficult.

i havnt tried for any badge, the ones i have are probably the easy common ones but iv got them with out trying and i recon most of us could get the badges if we gave a crap about them..

im saying this all lite hearted m8 ,well done for getting the badge ,it just pisses me off when i know it spoils the game a little with people trying to get them

Having stats on our LW server almost tore our squad apart so we binned them..

We tried again at the start of BHD.. ALl they did was attract dick heads into our server and caused friction within our squad and made the server poor so we binned them...

BF2 "Has" The potential to be an awsome online game but for me and I know many others has distroyed itself and made the whole playing process unpleasent due to the fact that its Stat based..

To gain the new weapons and be on an even playing filed for command vote etc U need points and ranks.. EA built an awsome team based shooter that requires all players to be a " Team " and play together to win maps then went and fecked the whole thing up by encouraging people to play for stats to look cool and have guns others dont have!

For me the whole stat system sucks ass!

Well said Moggy & Soup. This thread sums up the reasons I never liked this game. It's been built to tempt people to play longer to earn points and gain some advantages over n00bs, with extra weapons and priority for Commander role for example. Plus, like Moggy said, there's the temptation to play for personal stats rather than for the objective of the game.

It's designed to be addictive. Not because it's so much fun but because there are advantages by playing more. So the gap between n00bs and regulars will continue to grow, which will make it more and more discouraging for new players to take up the game as time passes. A potentially great game ruined for me, and I think those reasons are what will kill it in the end.

tbh, after 3 months of play - i've got all the unlocks i want. badges mean jack sh**.

rank means that an experienced player can get the command post, you don't really want a n00b calling RT strikes do you?

I do wish the game had a TKOTH mode, it would help make the play more concentrated and be less of a flag chasing exersise - which would help.

If BHD had the graphics and the cheat protection of BF2 i'd still be playing it. the gameplay was just - more fun.

looking forward to buying spec ops, to see if it becomes as intense...

...also looking forward to NOT HAVING TO WORK SO BLOODY MUCH. roll on 2006.

i play because i like the game and the ppl i play it with not because of badges. I mean when i get them i dont minds it but i dont think any1 does.At the end of the day i would have chucked away the game by now if it wasnt for playin with all u guys, 4 me thats the best bit!!! :)

i've been playing alot of Counterstrike source recently just due to the fact that BF2 is to much stat whored, BHD is begining to get boring and JO.. well sucks..

Counterstrike is great if you go into the right servers , at start is very hard to get used to , but when u get good at it , it's great fun!!!

Actually, I'm not that bothered about most stats in BF2 either. I don't actively log in and think which badge should I go for today but I every time I logged in to BF2S.com, it said I needed the knife badge to be promoted to First Seargent, which has a cooler rank tag than the equivalent without the badges.

I haven't played CS - you say there's still a big following so I guess it's quite an old game and would be quite cheap. Would it be any good for a newbie or will all the old lags have extreme armour and weapons?

And LEAD... I never got a Blue Peter badge but I did get a set of stickers off of Jigsaw. Too bad I stuck them on my bedroom door and never took them off when I moved.

naah its not like stat built like BF2, if you buy Halflife2 , which is a great game , you get CS:Source free with it. U have to buy guns each round comparing on how well u do , like if u kill someone you get money , if your team does well you get money , so u can buy guns , it's very tactical based and good fun. can't see whats not to like, maybe because it's too tactical when u first play the game it's hard to get used to!, headshots are a must. U just gotta find a good server :)

Just like to say sumut on the conquest Vs TKOFH, at the moment like other have stated that BF2 is a game of flag chase.. with little REAL teamplay involved (not like TKOFH) but if you play a 16 man map with 8,9 or 10 a side in a small confined area sumut like 3 flags then you can work as a team better and have really good fights... just a thought...
