Over the last few days Steve's PC has started acting up. Dead slow or hanging completely, and the little CD symbol attached to the mouse pointer is flickering non-stop. So resources are being eaten up by CD activity it seems. Only happens when there is a CD in the drive, and doesn't seem to matter what CD it is. CD doesn't load anything. CD tray won't open - only way to get a CD out is to reboot and punch it out during the reboot.

Most likely explanation is that the CD drive is knackered, but thought I'd ask here b4 putting a new one in. Or worse, could it be the mobo?

AVG and Spybot say the PC is clean.

Sry, should have reposted earlier. Yup - tried that after Salmon's post. Put my DVD R/W in and it's working fine. Darn, I'll have to get myself a new one now

Thanks for the help guys.
