BF2142 - The buggiest game ever?

Hey all,

I'm finally getting settled after moving back to the US. So I visit your site and see that you've moved on to BF2142..

I gotta gets me some TIN killin', so I break down and buy the bugger:
1) Download, install, patch to 1.06, launch, join server, "memory.dll" error.
2) Delete cache, temp files, launch, join server, "memory.dll" error.
3) Uninstall, delete profile folder, delete Program Files folder, remove registry entries.
4) Install, patch to 1.06, launch, join server, CTD.
5) Delete cache, temp files, launch, join server, CTD.
6) Uninstall, delete profile folder, delete Program Files folder, remove registry entries.
7) Install, patch to 1.06, launch, join server, "modified content" kick.
8) Delete cache, temp files, launch, join server, "modified content" kick.
9) Goto step 1.

That said, after countless iterations of the above mentioned steps, I've finally got the game loaded to the point that I can actually join a server and play about 80% of the time. However, every time I try to join a Titan mode server, I CTD at about 80% of the "loading" progress bar.

I've tried every combination of graphics and sound settings I can think of. Disabled features, enabled features, game settings at the lowest possible, turned off hardware acceleration via DxDiag, you name it.

I'd love to hop into your server and start killing you all again, but Titan maps just won't load for me. Anyone have any ideas?

I have upgraded and downgraded drivers like mad. Catalyst is at 6.11, but some forum posts stated that 6.10 works better. I started at 6.8 and have tried 6.9 as well. Yeah a new graphics card would be great, but the 9600XT is supported by the game, and does in fact run the game.

What bothers me is that a simple uninstall->reboot->reinstall sequence produces totally different outcomes. First install sequence, I get memory.dll sanity check errors. Second install sequence produces error free CTD's. Third install results in punkbuster kicks. Fourth and I'm back to memory.dll errors again.

It's not a perfect cycle. Sometimes I get CTD's two installs in a row, then the next install will run for a couple of hours. Then I'll get a memory.dll sanity check error and I know it's time to reinstall.

The worst part is that when I do get the "magic working install", it CTD's on all Titan servers.

I suppose the next step is to get a working install and take an MD5 hash of all files in the install directory. Then when it crashes, get another hash list and compare the two. Honestly, there should be no reason whatsoever that the errors change. I could understand if I always got the sanity check error. Then I could just assume that it was my particular configuration that the game didn't like. Instead, it works, then it doesn't. Plus, it crashes in three different ways, all dependent upon the particular install instance.

EA needs to get their shite together.

hey dude ,,,sounds like ur having as much fun with it as i did,,,i may be able to help with the ctd problem,,,do u have any virtual drives installed on ur pc,,ie,deamon tools,,,if so there is a 90% chance that this is causing the ctd and uninstalling it wont help you ,,you will need a full format,,now i know some 1 will jump in here and say i use deamon tools and have no problems,,,but after 4 weeks of hell and hours on the fone to ea that was my problem
