Hey,

I have 5 problems on my comp at the moment which i will explain now, and if anyone helps i will be very very grateful!

1) I posted this also on topic in public forum but here goes:

im usin BT and hav a 576kb broadband connection........................but......downloa ds never go over 60kb/s and sometimes randomly go down to 3kb/s or even less. I'm on a network which won't help but this doesn't change the speed too much and anyway my sister only uses the computer for msn really and dad for work but usually he does it wt his work office. I click on the Internet connection sign in the taskbar however and it says its doing 576Knbps. Any ideas why its doin that?

2) On msn i can't recieve/send files cos it crashes my internet. Is this probably due to the fact that on my network hub i think we have a firewall to stop incoming hackers? And if yes is there anyway to sort this out without removing it cos my dad doesn't want to. We are using a D-Link network hub if you need yo know.

3) I still cant get on joint ops. When i join i get punted after 2 secs and it says:

You have been punted via punkbuster after 0minutes. Reason: Inadaquate O/S Privilages. I have reinstalled both JO and Punk buster but still no luck. Again may this be to do with the firewall? and anyway of fixin it without removin firewall?

4) I normally have about 50 proccess running which seems to many although i have checked most of them out and they all seem to be fine. But there is a process called 'System Idle Process' which uses around 97 of my CPU. Is this normal on computers?

5) My comp is sooooooooo noisy! Anyway of reducing the noise level? Without having to put anything inside ma comp or woteva cos im not very good with computers as u can probably tell ::(:

And if you need to know my comp specs:

Dell Dimension 4500 Computer
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
512Mb RAM
Direct X 9.0c

Also i use Norton Antivirus 2005 if u need to know.

I worked these out by clicking start --- run, typing: dxdiag.exe and then copyin out the info. If that aint the right way to work them out then tell me how please!

Thanks very much in advance to anyone who spends time reading this and trying to help me fix this. ::):

Ok No. 1 - For starters on BT's connection or any other at 576 down you won't get over 60kbs down speed.
As for some D/L's radomly going down too 3kbs it depends were you are pulling it from, as it dictates what speed you get it at. :D

No. 3 - Have a read at this below, i keep PB upto date manually so it insures a securer Cheat ditection for the server.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why does PunkBuster now require players to run the game as an administrator under WinXP/2K?

Because some cheats/hacks cannot be detected otherwise.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there some way to modify my system configuration to be an administrator equivalent from PunkBuster's perspective in Win2k/XP Pro?

Yes (under Win XP Pro or Win 2K). This can be accomplished by setting certain privileges for the user that will run the game. To do this, first temporarily log in as an Administrator. Then go to Control Panel => Administrative Tools => Local Security Policy. This will open up the Local Security setting window. Expand the Local Policies folder and select User Rights Assignment. This will bring up a list of security settings for the computer. You will need to add the user that will be launching the game to have the following privileges. If the user is logged in while making changes, the user must be logged out and back in for the changes to take effect.

Debug Programs
Load and unload device drivers
Manage auditing and security log
Modify Firmware environment values
Profile Single Process

This is done by double clicking on the setting and then the "Add User or Group" button. You can either type the user or group name into the field or click on advanced to select from a list. If you select advanced, you may need to click on the "Object Types" button and make sure all 3 boxes are checked. Then click "OK". Click on the "Find Now" button to generate a full list of all users and groups on the system. Highlight the user you want to add the rights to and click "OK". Keep clicking "OK" untill you are back at the Local Security Settings window. Repeat this process for the rest of the list. That user will now be able to play on PB servers without getting kicked for "Inadequate O/S Privileges".

I'll let DAZ sort the rest out for you m8 ;)

LMFAO...50 processes...what you got the PC doing?...your homework? The washing up?

BEANS...take a seat and think about the last line of number 4...System IDLE Process...that means that you have 97% of processing power IDLE (idle means "doing nothing")
As for 50 processes...that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy too many...about 3 times too many in fact.
