Getting some hosting

riote i might getting some unlimited hosting for only $20 with 1 free domain name (great deal :D) and i cant tihnk of a good domain name to choose from!! , is there anything you guys can think of, im thinking of opening a design site but cant think of a name - i thoguht with b3graphics.. but not to fond of that, maybe somin with B3 in it tho ...

any ideas are welcome!!,

2. There is no such thing as 'free' and 'unlimited' in webhosting (or probably anything else for that matter). These terms are generally assumed to be a con of some sort. It may just be that the 'unlimited' bit is actually quite limited - as you will find out if you start to use any significant space or bandwidth (especially bandwidth). Most people who buy 100s of MB of space cos it looks good use very little of it in practice - mostly measured in 10s or 100s of KB. This overselling is what they bank on with the 'unlimited' crap. Just try and use it and see what happens.

However you might find it will host everything you want just fine. The thing you MUST make 100% sure of is that the domain is registered in YOUR name. This is a common con and it's important .....

If they give you a free domain (and every organisation on the planet has to pay for a domain name so they are not just offering free hosting, they are giving you something that costs them money ... WHY?) there has to be a reason. That reason usually is that many people want to keep a domain name once they have used it for a year. Example - if you get into your graphics site well and get some good stuff up there ... people get to know about it ... it's your pride and joy ... it's your name (b3no.com or whatever) ...

... then you get to the end of the free year and want to keep the domain name obviously .... only to find that it's actually registered to THEM (they paid for it remember). So you want to keep the domain name and keep your site alive? Fine - that'll be £50 renewal please. Per year, forever, if you want to stick with the name. Many businesses get caught this way because once the domain has been up for a year it is a HUGE task to let customers know it has moved somewhere else.

Some of the costs I've heard for renewals are horrendous. Oh yes - you have to host it with them too. Bigger cost again.

Buy the domain yourself. You can host the domain anywhere once you own it - that way YOU are in control. Don't pay more than £10 per year for the domain.

always buy your domain from a different company that you host with, that way, when you do need to move to a bigger/better/faster etc host, you dont have any problems with the domain.

i use 34sp.com for domain names and am currently using oneandone.co.uk for hosting.

i sometimes use 34sp.com for 'smaller' hosting & when client wants control of their own space - on oneandone.co.uk i manage the space for them.

if you want REAL hosting with a leased line to a managed,dedicated n+1 box, give me a call and i'll set you one up - be prepared to pay ££££'s , but i'll give ya the domain for free!

yes i have used this hosting b4 - i had one without a domain name but the domain name and the hosting costs $20/year - he has just got a new server and recomends it's reliable! - the old one he has wasnt too great , but when i had the server it hosted Fine- i uploaded bout 5 songs and seemed ok! - so i think this guy is reliable enough to deal with and he "says" he has the best deal so far but i am considering it may be a CON - but it's only £10 down the drain! - thats only 2 weeks pocket money - but i see your point and i will consider it.

Right this guy gives away hosting free if you dont want it with a domain name - soas you say FEAR you get a domain from a different website - can you get a Free hosting of that guy then buy a cheap domain name from that website ,

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole m8.

Look at their own site - crap, full of spelling mistakes, etc. Try all the links on the bottom for 'Contact Us, FAQ, etc .... , nothing. Likewise their reference sites that they proudly present as their work .... ark!

they just starting up a site only put it up today - and yes looks biit dodgy - but ive been using some of the servers for the past 3months....

You could always get/make a cheap computer hav it connected to the internet and leave it on all the time.
Have Linux on it and set it up as ur own server. Thats what i used to do for my ftp.
