View Full Version : 30 Gigabytes enough?

I've currently got a BT ADSL connection of 512 thingys and am considering upgrading to the 1 meg connection but there is a limit of 30 gigabytes per month.

My questions are:

Would this help reduce lag?

What other effects would I notice?

How many hours of gameplay would 30 gig give me per day?

Cheers in advance.

Hi Guys.

I use BT 512 but am going to upgrade to (some else other than BT) to a 1MB

The BT download limits don't come into efffect until February 2005. Cos they don't have the technology to limit you yet!!!! ::P:

If you check the small print it says Feb 2005. They are still testing at the moment.

Sennadog find some other provider cos BT are poor on the customer service.

small point.

its the up speed that helps the most, check that if you upgrade to 1Mb that that also increases, if it doesn't then theirs not mcuh point (with regard to gaming)

well.....

if your on BT at the mo, check your latest bill, nice little "update" leaflet with all the nice download limits coming in...

quote " BT will not apply this usage allowance until early 2005. After the date, if your monthly usage allowance limit is exceeded, you will have the choice of a restricted service for the remainder of the month, or the option to buy additional usage capacity. " unquote

and ive researched that online gaming counts towards your monthly limit, it is after all data transference.

our server pc has been connected for 47 days and used 114GB (we think) so im up the creak with no paddle......

we cant get blueyonder (2mb £29.99) and most have d/l limits apart from AOL.....

they currently have a 1mb at £29.99 but upgrading in Jan05 and you can get 2mb pipe for £34.99

free modem until end of dec so myself and my flatm8 are considering it so im wondering the drawbacks of AOL?

Zen are indeed the dogs proverbials, they're the adsl supplier that are reccommended to all the customers where I work.

With Nildram myself who are also top notch, 2mb conn never had any probs and as they host the jolt network a good choice for gamers. But atm I'd still probably tip Zen as the best.

Fear is bang on though, it's not your download it's your upload that counts when it comes to gaming... was looking at some bonded or sdsl connections for myself specifically for that reason, saw the £200+ a month price and thought... well I can't honestly repeat what I thought in public :wtf:

Wasnt sure if live linking was allowed by all thats why I replaced the "tt" with "88".It's common practice on most sites I visit....

Some good information here. It wasn't obvious to me whether the 1mb Zen package included 512k upload speeds or not - any ideas?

The other problem is my email address which has always been @btinternet.com which I don't want to lose for obvious reasons. Can the address be migrated to a new ISP?

1.Soup has the 1MB service i think you will find the upload is still 256/kbs.
2.I was with Bt.internet before ZEN the option for the migration of my bt
email address was not possible.
